I am part of a team that works alongside clients from a wide variety of industries to help implement our tax planning strategies. This involves providing tailored advice on a daily basis to clients. I am currently studying for my ICAEW ACA exams. With fully qualified and part qualified colleagues, support is always on hand. My training and development does not stop there, since starting I have undertaken several courses to broaden my knowledge as well as attending local business events representing Qubic.
I love knowing that our work is very niche and as a result avoids any mundane stereotypes associated with the finance/ accountancy industry. My colleagues come from very different employment backgrounds and the blending of individual’s competencies helps to create a very forward thinking and innovative environment. The very friendly but focused atmosphere helped me feel part of the team immediately. I enjoy striving to achieve the excellence that Qubic is renowned for.
Previously a business graduate working in recruitment, I always felt a hunger to work in accountancy, although it is fair to say I had never considered a career in tax. After learning that this cutting edge tax planning firm had only been in existence from early 2008 and an office in London had already opened, the growth and potential for further growth really excited me. Despite already being in secure employment, the opportunity to work for such a unique expanding firm was one I felt would be too hard to turn down. I am an enthusiastic individual and feel the passion Qubic transmits into its work is something I want to be a part of for a long time.
I provide support to the team working out of Qubic’s London office and work alongside 2 of the directors organising their meetings, liaising with clients and providing administrative support, as well as managing the office and looking after visitors. I also help the marketing team with data management, direct mail campaigns and seminars.
We are lucky that the office is based in the Gherkin, which has fantastic views over London. It is really popular with clients as they enjoy the opportunity to visit this iconic building. The team here are all very friendly to work with and the office has a great atmosphere. The passion we all share as a firm for what we do provides a good foundation for our work and is proven in our results.
We work very closely with our colleagues in the Newcastle office and they have always made us feel part of the team, even though we are at opposite ends of the country. It is much easier to pick up the phone and ask a question when you know you will hear a friendly and helpful voice at the other end.
Prior to Qubic I worked at a large media organisation and I have found that I much prefer the culture and working environment of a smaller organisation and feel more valued as an employee.
My role involves managing a portfolio of clients, providing advice and assisting with the implementation of various products. Most recently, I have been involved with tax planning and the implementation of Employee Benefit Trusts, working with a range of clients from small owner managed businesses to large limited companies.
I am currently in the final year of completing the ACA qualification. As part of my formal training, I am given time out of the office to attend college for my exams. There is a great deal of emphasis on personal development at Qubic and staff are encouraged to develop their skills in order to ensure that we provide the highest standard service to our clients. In addition, the team is made up of a diverse range of talented people with different areas of expertise and employment backgrounds from whom I have gained a great deal of knowledge.
The nature of tax planning is such that things are always changing. This keeps the job interesting and very current because we have to be up to date with legislative changes as well as changes in client demand.
I enjoy being part of the team at Qubic. Everyone works together and recognises the importance of delivering first class service in the most efficient manner which means that if any problems arise, there are always people on hand to assist and ensure that the best possible end result is achieved.
My role is unlike that of many trainee accountants in that I have a great deal of interaction with key individuals for each of the clients I work with. In addition, early responsibility was entrusted to me to manage my own portfolio of clients which I found very motivating and it makes the job more rewarding to know that the end result is influenced by the effort I put in personally.
I recognised that working for Qubic provided an opportunity to be a part of a fast growing business within a niche market. The business has quickly developed a strong presence in the industry and it is exciting to be a part of this. I advise both corporate and private clients on a range of tax related matters as well as perform a supervisory and development role internally.
Qubic advises on a range of taxes and I have been lucky to be involved in several different areas which has meant that my development has never been restricted. As an advisory practice we are constantly developing new ideas as clients needs change, which provides for a very creative and interesting working environment – yes tax can be interesting! The team that I work in has been heavily involved in providing corporate clients with advice on various remuneration structures and it is really interesting to see demand for innovation in this area grow during the recent economic downturn which has definitely shaped our work in this regard.
As part of my role, I assist in the supervision and development of certain fee earners within a team. Qubic place a strong emphasis on teamwork which is fundamental to making sure that we are able to deliver the level of service that our clients expect and is an area that I think sets us apart from other professional firms. By operating a mentor system, the firm ensures that all staff are supported to enable them to progress and develop in their chosen roles. In addition, the firm actively supports employees to develop their skills both in a professional and vocational sense which I have benefitted from with the firm having helped me to become a qualified Taxation Technician since my joining.
Qubic has an open door policy and I have always been encouraged to approach senior colleagues with any questions or queries, however bizarre they may seem! This culture of openness and a strong team ethic has helped to develop a real sense of togetherness which has been invaluable when working on large projects and initiatives with tight deadlines.
In my opinion, the best thing about working at Qubic is the people. Whilst the firm offers an excellent quality of work, opportunities for personal development and clear career progression, it is the people that I work alongside which make working here so enjoyable.
I moved to Qubic in order to further my career in the field of tax and become a specialist practitioner. Having worked solely in the legal profession as a solicitor in private practice, I moved into the accountancy sector with a degree of trepidation. However, my fears were largely unfounded due to the support that I received from my colleagues and the time taken to ensure that I was well equipped to succeed in a new discipline.
